Previously a private school prep institution, SQN Educational Design reimagined their business model in 2020 and approached iDesign to rebrand their company and their new space. SQN’s new model centered around “Design Thinking,” a human-centered approach to learning, collaboration, problem solving, and creation. The philosophy connects children’s learning to nature as the ideal environment for sparking creativity in young minds.

iDesign’s solution was to transform the 2,800 square foot unit not only into a learning environment that bridged the gap between SQN’s physical space and their philosophy, but into a resource in and of itself that enhanced the learning experience. Employing a nature theme, primary colours and bold shapes, iDesign divided the space into four main areas: “Ocean,” “Mountain,” “Land Contours,” and “Treehouse.” The “Ocean” area features an organic-shaped table perfect for sensory play, crafts, and exploring creativity. “Mountain” is a multi-level platform ideal for story time and learning. “Land Contours” is a similar platform area with additional seating and tables. Lastly, “Treehouse” is a multi-level play and learning area. Just as play meets learning at SQN, fun meets function in every detail of iDesign’s concept; even the ceilings are lined with blue-wave acoustic panels because, let’s face it, learning can get a bit loud when kids are having fun!
